Sometimes, there just aren’t enough hours in the day...
There are always hundreds of little jobs to do around the house and it can seem like a daunting task even if it’s just finally getting around to that deep clean you’ve been meaning to do. To make it all seem more manageable break it down into single tasks and assign yourself one or two per week. You’ll soon get into the routine of getting a couple of house things done on an evening or at the weekend and it’ll mean you can enjoy the rest of your spare time in the knowledge that you’ve achieved something. The steady progress will soon become apparent and you’ll start feeling like you’re back on top of your home maintenance in no time.

Tips & Tricks
• When you’re defrosting your freezer, place a bowl of hot water inside to speed the process up.
• If you have a door that sticks in warm weather, apply furniture polish to the frame to lubricate it and allow it to open more easily.
• To prevent pictures from moving so they hang at an angle, attach small rubber studs to the bottom corners so they grab the wall better.
• If you’re having a go at fixing or cleaning something yourself, take photographs at every stage while you take it apart. It’ll make it much easier when it comes to putting it back together!
• If you’re working with cement, add a drop of washing up liquid to the mix to increase the smoothness of the mixture and make it easier to work with.
• Put a piece of masking tape on any shiny or slippery surfaces you need to drill, it’ll stop the drill bit slipping and give you a much neater hole.
• If you’re trying to get some sparkle back into mirrors or windows try using lemon juice as cleaner and polishing the glass with newspaper.
• If you’re putting up a new bathroom cabinet, make sure you put the plugs in the sink and bath plugholes to stop you dropping any screws or fixtures down there.
• If you’re sawing wood, treat your saw blade to a little lubricant like WD40 or even soap, it’ll help it to cut much more smoothly.
