Tips to improve your security...
Think like a burglar
Take a walk around your home or business property and think about how you would break in. Look at accessible windows, the locks on doors and things like patio doors and consider how easy it would be to access the property by climbing on conveniently positioned low roofs or balconies. Once you’ve got an idea of the likely entrance points, you know where to focus your attention when thinking about locks, double glazing and burglar alarm sensors.
Is his bark worse than his bite?
Dogs are known to be one of the best deterrents against burglars, but obviously it’s a bit of a commitment if you’re not already a dog owner. Still, having a dog-bowl out in your back garden, and a ‘beware of the dog’ sign might just give enough of a hint to discourage unwanted visitors. Make friends with your local animal rescue centre. They’re always grateful for volunteers to take dogs for walks or offer a helping hand. Having a dog in your house for a few hours every weekend will give the impression to any burglars taking an interest in your property that there is a dog in residence, and you’ll be doing something good for the community
