Don’t panic! Here’s how to put a temporary fix on some of those common emergencies while you wait for us to arrive...
Help! I’ve sprung a leak...
CALL US! We’ll get someone on their way to you asap. If water is leaking from a pipe, try wrapping some lengths of old material tightly around the crack. Find a container to put under it and catch the flow to prevent it damaging any other parts of your property.
Help! My toilet is overflowing...
Take the lid off the tank and put your arm right down to the bottom of the tank. You should be able to get to the stopper valve, which you should push down securely. To turn off the water supply to the toilet you need to tighten the shut-off valve. If you’re not sure where it is, the best thing to do is turn off your main water supply.
Have a go at removing the blockage yourself with a plunger – it’s just possible you’ll be able to fix the problem yourself. If you’re not having any luck, or don’t feel comfortable trying to remedy the problem yourself, call us on 0800 612 6026.
Help! There’s no hot water...
Firstly, turn off the tap. If hot water isn’t coming through, running water through the pipes won’t resolve the issue and leaving the tap running
will be pushing your water bill up!
It’s most likely that something has gone wrong with your boiler. The first thing to check is if the pilot light has gone out.
Help! My sink is blocked...
Try pouring some caustic soda down the plughole to dislodge the blockage. If this doesn’t seem to be working, have a go with a plunger while
holding a damp cloth over the over-flow to create an air-lock and increase the power of the plunger.
Hints and tips:
Don’t get cold this winter
Get your boiler regularly serviced. It’s a lot cheaper to prevent problems before they occur than to fix them afterwards. Plus, it’ll save you the
stress of dealing with your heating breaking in the middle of the coldest day of the year.
Shower running slow?
London is a hard water area, which means limescale builds up on your showerhead. Clean it every few months and you’ll notice the water flows
much more powerfully.
Missing the sparkle in your shower?
Clean tiles and glass doors with a mixture of white vinegar and water for a sparkle that will make you feel even cleaner when you shower.
Leaky tap?
The most likely cause is a worn out washer. Replace them regularly to prevent those annoying drips.
Shower curtain attracting mildew?
Put it in the washing machine to get it clean, and once it’s dry spray it with a mild disinfectant. This will prevent mildew and mould forming as quickly, keeping it cleaner for longer.
Get your stained toilet gleaming
Before you go to bed throw two denture tablets in your toilet and let them work their magic overnight. Give it a quick scrub in the morning and
watch the stains disappear. |
